FERN FAMILY DINNER: BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Thursday, February 19 | 6:00–7:00 PM | Barque Smokehouse

Fern families are invited to a Black History Month community gathering this February at Barque Smokehouse, a Fern-parent–owned restaurant on Roncesvalles. Barque will be closing to the public for this very special event, creating a welcoming space for Fern families to come together and learn in community.

We’re pleased to welcome Dwayne Morgan as our special guest. Dwayne is a Toronto-based spoken-word artist, author, and producer with more than 30 years of experience. A two-time Canadian National Poetry Slam Champion, he has performed across Canada and internationally, including for Barack Obama, and has shared stages with artists such as Alicia Keys, Drake, and Russell Peters. His work is known for engaging audiences of all ages and encouraging thoughtful conversation.

Throughout February, classrooms engage in age-appropriate learning about Black history and conversations related to anti-Black racism. This event offers families an opportunity to continue those conversations together. Dwayne will present a spoken-word performance, followed by a short, family-friendly dialogue session.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase for those who wish; no purchase is required to attend. Families are welcome to stay after the performance to enjoy the space. As Barque is closing the restaurant just for us, seating is limited. Mark your calendars for Feb 19 & stay tuned for more info coming this January!
