MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

Updated: May 28

ree

What a great turnout for our last (live and in-person) meeting of the year!! Thanks to all who came out and participated in some important conversations...

In case you missed it, here are some of the highlights:

  • TDSB budget cuts (incl. pool closure/music program cuts): stay tuned for details about a community "walk to school rally" within the next week and consider how you can have a voice on this topic!

  • Pest control: we've all been hearing about the pests at Fern; but rest assured that Principal Lariviere and Vera are on top of it with Orkin's top-tier bi-weekly services! Reach out to them if you see anything on the property - more info can only help in the efforts to get rid of them.

  • Rules and reminders (a plea from Fern admin):

    • Parents on school grounds: please enter and check in through our front office if you need to come onto school property for any reason

    • Pets on school grounds: please remember that NO PETS are allowed on school property

    • Students at lunch: if students start their lunch at Fern, they are required to stay for the duration - even a trip to the variety store

    • Student devices: Students continue to use their devices, including watches, during school hours - please remind your kiddos of the rules and call the front office if you need to reach them during the day

    • Sunshine Lunches: we are hoping to start sunshine lunches soon, but please remind your kiddos to pick-up and throw out their waste, and remember to bring in all their belongings with them (the lost and found table and maintenance staff thank you)

  • Upcoming events: Discussion and details were shared about all of the upcoming June events - plans around everything from Pride Day to Fernapalooza, Kindy Grad to Grade 8 Grad, Grade 8 boat building to the Staff Appreciation Brunch. So many opportunities to get involved!

  • Spending approvals: Budget updates were shared and consensus reached around several spend requests. You can see the full list of 2024-25 approvals on the Fundraising and Finances page of the website!

Most importantly, we spent time celebrating Alison McLean for her tireless contriibutions on behalf of and impact to Fern PS, our students and families, and our community. After 7 years as our fearless leader, Alison is stepping down as School Council Chair as she moves on with her kiddos to their next chapters in high school and beyond. Incase you missed the meeting last night and want to send your thanks, please jump onto this Kudoboard and sign our community card!
